Description:

For industrial floor finishing, combining excellent wear resistance properties with high chemical resistance and decorative quality at the same time. It is particularly suitable for use in aggressive areas where a seamless finish is required and where maximum hygiene is essential. Food processing and storage, slaughterhouses, beverage production, dairies and traffic areas are some of the environments that can benefit from this system.

ARDEX R90P has been formulated to provide a convenient preparation system and can be applied easily and quickly using the spreader skid and trowel to give the final finish.

Substrate preparation:

The substrate must be hard, solid and free of dust or other loose particles such as paint, lime residues, mortar, plaster, adhesive residues, etc., which may impair adhesion to the substrate.

All traces of varnish, waxes, grease, oil and similar contaminants must be removed prior to mechanical preparation. Contaminated concrete surfaces must be mechanically treated by shot blasting, sanding, sandblasting or similar equipment and then vacuumed prior to the application of ARDEX R90P. Over-watered or brittle concrete surfaces must be properly prepared by mechanical methods to convert them to hard, solid concrete. Dust and other debris must be removed using vacuum equipment.

Any joints or cracks in the concrete substrate, where differential movement, e.g. joint displacement, can be anticipated, must be repaired as they will affect the finished surface. New concrete slabs should be laid and allowed to harden for at least 14 days.

To ensure maximum bonding, joints should be made around the perimeter of the substrate, normally 8 mm deep by 8 mm wide. These should be located approximately 10 cm from and parallel to the walls and adjacent to door frames and skirting boards, etc. Including finishing edges and joints. Joints should have clean, right-angled edges. Joints shall surround an area not exceeding 20 m2.

Steel plates:

The steel surface should be clean, sound and adequately supported to prevent bending. Plate thicknesses of less than 4 mm are not recommended. Surfaces should be shot blasted to Sa2½ and primed with ARDEX epoxy resin.

Priming:

All substrates suitable to receive ARDEX R90P must first be primed with ARDEX epoxy resin (ARDEX R3E, ARDEX DPM 1C). Depending on the condition and porosity of the substrate, one or more coats may be required. The final coat of primer should be lightly seeded with aggregate to provide additional mechanical grip.

Mixing process:

The components Part A and Part B of ARDEX R90P must first be mixed together for 1 minute with a suitable mixer in a suitable mixing vessel. Mix the pigment.

The contents of Part C, powder component, must be added to the already mixed resin and mixed together for a further 2 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. One or more units may be mixed, in order to maintain a rapid rate of installation. one or more packs may be mixed at the same time.

Application:

The mixed material should be applied without delay to the previously prepared and primed surface, using a skid spreader to achieve the desired thickness and then refined with a steel trowel.

If a smoother texture is required, as soon as the product has been spread and as the job progresses, a spiked roller can be used on the surface to give a more uniform appearance. Do not roll again afterwards.

The work area should be protected during installation and during the initial curing time to ensure that the wet resin surface is not contaminated with airborne dirt as this will cause unwanted surface imperfections once hardened.

All expansion joints in the substrate must be brought up to the top coat and then properly sealed.

Construction joints and cracks not subject to movement can be covered, but should movement eventually occur, these defects will be reflected in the finish of the system. Insulation joints should be made in areas where movement is expected due to strong thermal shock, e.g. around ovens or freezers.

Limitations:

ARDEX R90P should only be applied at temperatures above +10°C and below +30°C. and at a relative humidity of 90 % or lower. Soils must have a relative humidity of 75 % or lower. Soils with residual moisture must be treated with ARDEX DPM membrane.

The substrate must have a strength of at least 1.5 N/mm2. ARDEX R90P and ARDEX DPM can be applied on substrates of lower strength, but in the long term the end result may be impaired. Once the mixed material has exceeded its pot life, the viscosity and characteristics of the product change and any unused residue should be discarded at that time.

Tool cleaning:

ARDEX R90P can be removed from tools and equipment by applying ARDEX TOOL CLEANER (RTC cleaner) immediately after use. Any hardened material should be removed mechanically.

Chemical resistance:

ARDEX R90P is resistant to a wide range of liquids and chemicals; for more specific information, consult the Ardex technical department.

Storage:

Storage should be in a dry place between +5°C and +30°C. Protection from frost and direct sunlight is required. The shelf life is 6 months, in the original closed containers.

Precautionary measures:

During mixing and application, the following precautionary measures must be observed: ensure adequate ventilation and avoid contact of the material with eyes, nostrils, mouth and unprotected skin. Avoid contact with hands by wearing protective gloves and, if necessary, applying a suitable protective cream.

In case of eye contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water and consult a doctor, and in case of skin contact, wash immediately with plenty of soap and water (do not use solvents). Prolonged skin contact should be avoided, especially when the user has an allergic reaction to epoxy materials. Always wear gloves and, if necessary, eye and face protection. Observe personal hygiene, especially hand washing after finishing work or following any interruption during the work process. Care should also be taken when removing gloves to avoid contamination of the inside of the gloves. In the event of an accident, consult a doctor, for further information please refer to the health and safety data sheet.

Residues/spills:

Spillage of any of the product components should be absorbed with sand or other inert material and transferred to an appropriate waste container. Disposal of waste or empty containers should be in accordance with the relevant provisions of local waste management regulations.
