ARDEX DPM 1C - Moisture blocking primer for rising damp

Primer. Moisture blocking by capillarity with subsequent application of Ardex self-levelling mortars. Vapour barrier. Can be applied on substrates containing up to 98% relative humidity. It is applied in a single coat.

ARDEX DPM 1C is a two-component, solvent-free, low viscosity, single coat epoxy resin. It is supplied in 12.5 kg containers: component A (resin) approx. 9.75 kg and component B (hardener) approx. 2.75 kg. After hardening, ARDEX DPM 1C creates a high-strength membrane with excellent adhesion on suitable substrates, including screeds and concrete with high residual moisture. ARDEX DPM 1C has excellent resistance to water, grease, oil, salt solutions, salt solutions, etc.

ARDEX DPM 1C has been specially developed to suppress residual moisture (up to 98%) in concrete and mortar screeds, providing a vapour barrier on substrates where it has not previously been applied or is ineffective. ARDEX DPM allows the laying of moisture sensitive coatings, on fresh substrates.

Substrate preparation:

The surface to be coated must be resistant, firm and free of dust, dirt or other elements that may be separating elements such as paints, adhesive residues, plaster, lime... any existing screed or substrate, not resistant to moisture, must also be removed. Curing agents of the concrete, additives and surface hardeners, or residues thereof, can impair the correct adhesion, and must be removed by shot blasting, sanding, sandblasting or hot compressed air... Movement joints:

Any joints or cracks in the substrate that are subject to movement, such as structural joints, must be respected (do not cover with ARDEX DPM 1C). These joints should be treated with flexible materials and should be brought to the surface of the pavement. 


The original containers of resin and hardener are pre-dosed with the exact quantities. The hardener (component B) is added to the resin (component A) and stirred with a spiral rod at slow speed until a uniform consistency and colour is obtained. It is very important that the resin components are well mixed. ARDEX DPM 1C is ready for use, with a workability time of 20 min at 20°C. At high temperatures, the working time is reduced, but is extended at low temperatures. It is recommended that at high temperatures,

ARDEX DPM 1C should be applied immediately, as the exothermic reaction of the resin and the heat generated inside the container will shorten the application time. Apply at temperatures above 10°C.


Apply a uniform coat of ARDEX DPM 1C with a suitable V-trowel. While ARDEX DPM 1C is still fresh, trowel marks should be smoothed out with a short nap roller, which should be pre-wetted with ARDEX DPM 1C. The application thickness must not be less than 350 microns (approx. 600 g/m2). (approx. 600 g/m2). It is important that the application of ARDEX DPM 1C is continuous and free of porosities or cavities, otherwise the application should be repeated. 

ARDEX Lightweight Self-Leveling Screeds. 

  1. Apply a uniform layer of ARDEX DPM 1C, allow to cure for approx. 6-8 hours at 20°C.
  2. Over cured ARDEX DPM 1C, apply ARDEX P82 Primer. See technical data sheet. 
  3. Apply the selected Ardex self-levelling compound in the required thickness.

Quick drying screed.

  1. Prepare the substrate so that it is a clean, firm and stable surface.
  2. Apply a uniform coat of ARDEX DPM 1C, allow to cure for approx. 6 - 8 hours at 20°C.
  3. Apply a second coat of ARDEX DPM 1C or ARDEX EP2000, and while still fresh, sandblast to saturation with silica sand, and allow to dry. Remove excess aggregate by vacuuming.
  4. Apply ARDEX A35 (see technical data sheet) or ARDEX self-levelling mortar systems.

Cleaning tools:

Clean all tools with solvents before the resin hardens. We recommend the use of ARDEX RTC.


The hardener contains 4,4-isopropylidenediphenol and amines classified as corrosive and the epoxy resin containing bisphenol A/F-epichlorhydrin, may irritate eyes and skin and may cause contact sensitisation.

They are considered harmful in contact with skin or if swallowed.

The following precautions should be observed during mixing or application: ensure adequate ventilation and avoid contact of the material with eyes, nostrils, mouth or skin.

Avoid contact with hands, protecting them with gloves and protective cream if necessary. 

In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.

doctor. In case of skin contact, wash immediately with soap and water (do not use solvents). Avoid prolonged skin contact, especially those with allergic reactions to epoxy materials. Always wear gloves and eye protection, if necessary.

Take care of personal hygiene after work, or during breaks in work, by always washing hands. 

Take care when removing gloves not to contaminate the inside of the gloves.
