Description

Field of application:

Consolidant for poor, brittle, porous and absorbent mortar or concrete surfaces.

Indoor use.

Substrate preparation:

The substrate must be hard, solid and free of dust or other deleterious particles such as paint, lime residues, mortar, plaster, adhesive residues, etc., which may impair adhesion to the substrate.

Before the mechanical preparation, all traces of varnish, waxes, grease, oils and similar contaminating substances must be removed.

To ensure correct penetration of the consolidant, concrete surfaces should be treated mechanically, by sanding using 16 or 24 grit sandpaper, after which the surface should be vacuumed.

Instructions for use:

ARDEX P62 SB consolidant must be properly stirred before use.

Once shaken, the consolidant is applied to the substrate using a medium nap roller (8-16 mm), combing it well and avoiding the formation of puddles of product.

Normally, approximately 600 g/m2 of ARDEX P62 SB should be applied. A 0.2-0.8 mm diameter silica aggregate should be sprinkled over the fresh consolidant at saturation.

The consolidant should be left to harden for 3 to 5 days, after which the sanded surface should be sanded intensively (with 24 or 40 grit sandpaper), after which the whole area should be thoroughly vacuumed.

On very absorbent substrates it may be necessary to use more than 600 gr/m2 of consolidant, in which case the hardening time will be extended and the humidity of the substrate should be measured to ensure that it is ready to receive the desired coating.

Installation of coatings:

Once the substrate has been consolidated, tensile strength tests should be carried out to ensure the level of cohesion achieved. It is recommended that 5 tests are carried out for each test area and one test area every 200m2.

Parquet adhesion according to the tensile strength obtained:

  • >1 ,5 N/mm2: installation of parquet mosaic (cube pattern), industrial parquet and multilayer parquet.
  • >2.0 N/mm2: installation of any standard parquet on the market.

Application of self-levelling mortars according to the tensile strength obtained:

  • >0.8 N/ mm2: the consolidated surface is primed with ARDEX PU30. The ARDEX PU30 primer can be saturated with 0.2-0.8 mm diameter silica aggregate while still fresh or, alternatively, the ARDEX P82 bonding bridge can be applied over the hardened ARDEX PU30 layer.

Whichever priming method is selected, at least 2 mm of ARDEX self-levelling primer must be applied afterwards (if ARDITEX NA self-levelling primer is selected, it can be installed directly on top of the ARDEX PU30 primer without sanding).

If glued-down parquet is to be installed, the tensile strength of the screed to which the self-levelling mortar is applied must be >1 ,5 N/mm2.

In case of doubt, please consult the ARDEX Technical Department.

Important note:

Do not use below + 15°C. Warm the primer before use in cold weather.

Avoid puddles; they may impair the adhesion of subsequent coats. Hardened puddles must be removed mechanically before further work.

Do not use ARDEX P62 SB in case of high substrate humidity or if rising damp may be present in structures in contact with the ground. ARDEX P62 SB Primer is not suitable for calcium sulphate mortars.

Precautions:

Before painting, coat all metal surfaces, glass, lacquered surfaces, wood and all other mineral surfaces that are not to be treated. Wear goggles and skin protection.
