Description

Sanitary silicone. Exterior and interior. Various colours.

Field of application:

Indoors and outdoors. Walls and floors.

Elastic sealing of expansion joints, corner and junction joints in bathrooms, showers and WC's in the home with ceramic coverings, on doors, windows and mounting elements in ceramic coverings on balconies, terraces and on facades.

Product description:

ARDEX SE is a one-component, acetic acid curing, easily injectable and smoothable silicone sealant. Due to the high elasticity, stretching and undercutting movements are compensated by up to 25 % of the joint width. After curing, ARDEX SE is resistant to weathering, UV radiation and commercially available cleaning and disinfecting agents. The joint is easy to clean. Thanks to its fungicidal finish, it prevents the formation of fungus and mould.

Substrate preparation:

ARDEX SE adheres well to glazed and unglazed tiles, enamels, glass, sanitary acrylic, polished and anodised aluminium, plastic, wood, coated kitchen worktops, solvent-free acrylic lacquers, alkyd resin lacquer and thick-coat glazed lacquer. With concrete, mineral plaster, ARDEX Primer SP 1 should be used; with chrome, stainless steel and hard PVD, ARDEX Primer SP 2 should be used (see adhesion table),

dry and free of dust, dirt, grease, oil and paint. Residues of old sealant must be completely removed. Greasy joint edges as well as the edges of bathtubs and shower trays must be cleaned with suitable cleaning agents.

Deeper joints should be pre-filled with a polyethylene cord with closed cavities. The bottom filling material must not be damaged during insertion. For shallower joints where no round profile fits, the bottom of the joint is covered with polyethylene tape to prevent adhesion on all three sides. Indoors, the joint width must be at least 5 mm, outdoors, at least 10 mm. Under no circumstances should bitumen, tar, oil or acrylic waterproofing materials or acrylic waterproofing materials be used.

Instructions for use:

Cut the tip of the cartridge above the thread, unscrew the nipple and cut crosswise according to the joint width. Insert the cartridge into the gun. Inject ARDEX SE into the joints in such a way that a bond is made between the joint flanks over the entire surface to achieve good adhesion. In case of angled joints, inject in a triangle.

Before film formation (approx. 10 - 12 minutes), smooth the seal with a suitable tool moistened with ARDEX SG smoothing agent and remove the adhesive tape. It is possible to work in sections, as fresh ARDEX SE adheres perfectly to the hardened material, provided that the surface is free of dirt and dust.

The width of the joint must be measured in such a way that the practical expansion capacity of 25% is not exceeded by the movements of the adjoining construction elements (expansion, underlayment). The joints - in relation to the joint width - must comply with the following depths:

In the case of joint fillings on exteriors, the joint width and depth must be at least 10 mm.

ARDEX SE is to be used at temperatures above + 5°C and below + 40°C.

Recommendations:

ARDEX SE is waterproof and prevents water from entering the joint. However, despite this, necessary waterproofing work should not be avoided.

ARDEX SE must not be painted or used for building joints. It is suitable for edge joints in floor areas, but is not suitable for joints in floors with heavy mechanical loads.

Despite the fungicide finish, care must be taken in sanitary areas to ensure that the joints are kept clean with standard detergents, as dirt and soap residues can serve as a breeding ground for fungi and algae. In addition, from time to time, it is advantageous that the seals are dried and, depending on the load, cleaned with a suitable disinfectant.

Started cartridges can be stored for several days, if the opening of the nozzle is closed with a sealant plug. Before continuing, this plug can be easily removed.

If necessary, any contamination from fresh residues can be removed immediately with thinner. After hardening, this is only possible by mechanical scraping, if the substrate is suitable for this.

In the case of varnished and plastic substrates, a prior adhesion and compatibility check is recommended. If ARDEX SE comes into contact with bituminous substrates, discolouration or loss of adhesion may occur. If iodine disintegrating detergents or disinfectants are used, discolouration may occur.

The following substrates are not suitable: bitumen, butyl, EPDM, rubber, polyethylene, marble and natural stone, neoprene, tar and Teflon. ARDEX SE does not adhere to polyethylene and Teflon. Other substrates may cause discolouration of the sealant.

ARDEX ST natural stone silicone is recommended for coatings of this type.

Natural stone and tiles with open pores should be protected with a suitable smooth adhesive tape. The smoothing agent must not reach the surface of these tiles and dry on top of it, as this could lead to staining.
